A pure devotee has no demand from the Lord. His only concern is to serve the Lord sincerely and seriously, and he is not at all concerned about what will happen in the future.
Srimad Bhagavatham, 4.9.29.Gebed vind-nu.nl
Although a child, dhruva maharaja during the month of karttika in the area of mathura worshiped lord sri damodara and immediately became fixed in his devotion, became worshipable by saunaka and the other sages and saw the supreme personality of godhead face to face.
(Hari bhakti vilasa 16/161 from padma purana)
We should know in perfect consciousness that human life is bestowed upon the conditioned soul to achieve spiritual success, and the easiest possible procedure to attain this end is to chant the holy name of the Lord.
Srimad Bhagavatham, 2.1.12....
One who worships the Supreme Lord and His holy name with undivided faith, knowing them to be identical, is considered an elevated, first class devotee.
(Srila Jagadananda Pandita - Prema Vivarta, Chapter 12)...
yair na dattam hutam japtam na snanam na harer vratam
na krtam kartike putra dvijas te vai naradhamah
Oh son narada, those brahmanas who do not give charity in the month of karttika, perform sacrifice, chant japa and fast for lord hari are the lowest of mankind.
(Hari bhakti vilasa 16/25 from skanda purana)
Those who are actually advanced in knowledge are able to appreciate the essential value of this age of Kali. Such enlightened persons worship Kali-yuga because in this fallen age all perfection of life can easily be achieved by the performance of sankirtana, the congregational chanting of the Lord\'s holy names.
In this material world, to render service to the lotus feet of Govinda, the cause of all causes, and to see Him everywhere, is the only goal of life. This much alone is the ultimate goal of human life, as explained by all the revealed scriptures.
Srimad Bhagavatham, 7.7.55...
To those who are constantly devoted to serving me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to me.
(Lord Sri Krsna - Bhagavad Gita 10.10)
One who acts to serve Krishna with his body, mind, intelligence and words is a liberated person, even within this material world.
His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada Bhakti Rasaamrutha Sindhu 1.2.187...
If one renders even a small amount of sincere devotional service, Krishna becomes obliged to elevate such person ; and what to speak of one whose entire life and soul has been dedicated to Krishna’s service.
His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada In his letter to Harer Nama, 6th November, 1969.
In all phases of life, one has to perform devotional activities under the direction of the spiritual master in order to attain perfection in Bhakti Yoga. It is not that one has to confine or narrow one’s activities. Krishna is all-pervading. Therefore, nothing is independent of Krishna, as Krishna Himself states in Bhagavad Gita 9.4.His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada In ‘The Nectar of instruction’, Text-3.
By performing congregational chanting of hare krsna mantra, one can destroy the sinful condition of material existence, purify the unclean heart, and awaken all varieties of devotional service.
(Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu - CC, Antya 20.13)...
This crying is the last word in the progressive path of devotional service. One who can cry for the Lord in love is certainly successful in the line of devotional service.
Srimad Bhagavatham, 3.4.35...
Meditation means stopping all nonsensical activities, at least for the time being. Devotional service, however, not only puts an end to all nonsensical mundane activities, but also engages one in meaningful devotional activities.
His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada In ‘The Nectar of instruction’, Text-2.
Anyone whose work is not meant to elevate him to religious life, anyone whose religious ritualistic performances do not raise him to renunciation, and anyone situated in renunciation that does not lead him to devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead must be considered dead, although he is breathing.
Oh brahmanas, any person who tries to observe a karttika month without following rules and regulations properly, lord sri krsna remains against them because this month (karttika) is very pleasing to him.
(Hari bhakti vilasa 16/24 from padma purana conversation between Narada muni and Saunaka rsi)
A fully responsible man should always be conscious of the prime duty of the present human form of life. The activities to meet the immediate necessities of material life are not everything. One should always be alert in his duty for attainment of the best situation in the next life. Human life is meant for preparing ourselves for that prime duty.
Srimad Bhagavatham, 2.1.13.
Krishna does not agree to award devotional service to merely anyone. Krishna can easily offer a person material happiness or even liberation, but He does not agree very easily to award a person engagement in His devotional service. Devotional service can in fact be attained only though the mercy of a pure devotee.
His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada In ‘The Nectar of devotion’, Page 14.
First birth is from your parents, but real birth, real life, begins when one accepts a bona fide spiritual master and renders service unto him. Then the path is open for going back to home, back to Godhead, to live eternally in full knowledge and full bliss and in association with the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself, Lord Krishna.
His Divine Grace A.C. Bhakthivedantha Swami Prabhupada In his letter to Narayani, 11th June, 1972.
This is the symptom of a pure devotee. One should serve the spiritual master first. It is not that one should bypass the spiritual master and desire to serve the Supreme Lord. This is not the principle for a Vaishnava.
Srimad Bhagavatham, 7.9.28...
One should discharge one’s duty on Lord Krishna’s behalf, and all one’s actions will be saturated with Krishna thought, the highest pattern of trance in spiritual realization.
Srimad Bhagavatham, 2.7.31..
Because Krishna\'s form, qualities, pastimes, etc. are all on the absolute platform, material senses cannot therefore appreciate them. When a conditioned soul is awakened to Krishna consciousness and renders service by using his tongue to chant the Lord\'s Holy name and taste the remnants of the Lord\'s food, the tongue is purified and one gradually comes to understand who Krishna really is.
Devotional service to Kr?is?hn?a is the chief function of the living entity. There are different methods for the liberation of the conditioned soul — karma, jñana, yoga and bhakti — but all are dependent on bhakti.
Sri Chaitanya Charithaamrutha, Madhya Leela, Chapter – 22, Text – 17...
The living entity is bound around the neck by the chain of maya because he has forgotten that he is eternally a servant of Krishna.
Sri Chaitanya Charithaamrutha, Madhya Leela, Chapter – 22, Text – 24..
In the transcendental loving service of the Lord, it does not matter whether we are working, cooking, painting, writing, chanting, or whatever ; they are all the same. There are no such distinctions of higher and lower on the transcendental platform. The important thing is that we are engaging our time and energy in the service of the Lord. After all, we are so tiny, what can we do? Krishna sees simply that this time is being spent in His service.
His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada In his letter to Kiranamayi, 25th February, 1968.
yatha ca mathanad vahnih sarva kasthesu drsyate
tatha ca drsyate dharmo dipadane na samsayah
Just as by rubbing of two sticks of wood one can see fire, so by offering a burning ghee wick to the lord in the month of karttika, one can see his merits without a doubt.
